Opa!!

Joyce, Larry and I dashed off to California during the first week of June. In San Diego, we connected with a young couple we met on the Greek trip last year. Then we traveled by Amtrak to Claremont and spent some time with our former teacher colleague Wendy and her husband Charles.Recreating our Greek experience at the Greek Festival in San Diego.

Tour de Saint Joseph

Dorothy, Barney and I visited old houses today...including our own old houses where we grew up. During the tour, we stopped at Robidoux Row and Wyeth Hill. Of course, we had to eat at Barbosa's Castillo.

An Excursion with St. Joseph Museums, Inc.

My travel buddy Joyce and I went to Kansas City yesterday to see "Bodies Revealed" at Union Station.
In the afternoon, we toured the Powell Gardens. Notice the little frog in the lower left corner of the picture. He was sunning himself on a bench. We thought he was a rock until Joyce touched him.

DJ in DC

I visited Washington DC with a group of community leaders April 15-16.

We left Kansas City at 6 am and arrived in the capitol around 9:30 Eastern time. Before meeting with Congressman Sam Graves, some of us walked to the White House, five blocks from our hotel. After the meeting, we took a short jaunt down the street to view flowers at the U.S. Botanic Garden conservatory.

The room in the Rayburn Building where we held a late-afternoon reception had a stunning view of the Capitol dome. Later, Sam Graves joined us to conduct an after-hours. personally-guided tour of the Capitol.

I ended the evening having drinks and appetizers with several Republican members of our group. They tried to convince me that I am really a Republican. Good thing I didn't order another glass of wine!

The second day we met with Senator Kit Bond. His office in the Russell Senate Building was Harry Truman's Senate office so we had an opportunity to look at photos and memorabilia. For lunch, we strolled to The Monocle restaurant, enjoying sunshine and vivid spring flowers along the way.

Our last meeting was with Senator Claire McCaskill. Our City Manager happened to be standing next to the Senator when I snapped her photo. He is neither a fan of McCaskill nor a Democrat. I assured him that I would Photoshop myself in his place. You can see the results in the slideshow photo "Vince..er...DJ"

On our way to Reagan International Airport, we stopped at the Smithsonian Castle. Fortunately for us, US Airways did not declare bankruptcy before we boarded for home. We arrived back in Kansas City around 9:30 pm, tired but satisfied with the success of the trip.

Recently, I visited my sister Dorothy in Southern California for a Girls Gone Wild Weekend. Joining us were my niece Marcee from Seattle, my Friend-in-Law Sally from San Antonia and her daughter Jeni from Houston. This slide show of what we did takes about four and a half minutes to view.

Spring weather, at last

After three months of ice and snow, the temperatures are finally rising above freezing. Daffodils are pushing up green shoots in my gardens and clusters of crocus peeked through this week.

A Pomme Pomme Easter

Since Barney said only those who went to church would get to go to brunch at the Country Club, most of the Pomme Pomme Girls were up early Easter Sunday morning.

Sister Norma bunny-trailed into the services a few minutes late but still in time to qualify for a place in the buffet line later.

Sisters at the Gallery

My sister and I were on the society page in the Sunday newspaper. I scanned the photo. Notice that some type faded through from the back of the newsprint. The picture behind us is one that I entered in the art show.
