DJ in DC

I visited Washington DC with a group of community leaders April 15-16.

We left Kansas City at 6 am and arrived in the capitol around 9:30 Eastern time. Before meeting with Congressman Sam Graves, some of us walked to the White House, five blocks from our hotel. After the meeting, we took a short jaunt down the street to view flowers at the U.S. Botanic Garden conservatory.

The room in the Rayburn Building where we held a late-afternoon reception had a stunning view of the Capitol dome. Later, Sam Graves joined us to conduct an after-hours. personally-guided tour of the Capitol.

I ended the evening having drinks and appetizers with several Republican members of our group. They tried to convince me that I am really a Republican. Good thing I didn't order another glass of wine!

The second day we met with Senator Kit Bond. His office in the Russell Senate Building was Harry Truman's Senate office so we had an opportunity to look at photos and memorabilia. For lunch, we strolled to The Monocle restaurant, enjoying sunshine and vivid spring flowers along the way.

Our last meeting was with Senator Claire McCaskill. Our City Manager happened to be standing next to the Senator when I snapped her photo. He is neither a fan of McCaskill nor a Democrat. I assured him that I would Photoshop myself in his place. You can see the results in the slideshow photo "Vince..er...DJ"

On our way to Reagan International Airport, we stopped at the Smithsonian Castle. Fortunately for us, US Airways did not declare bankruptcy before we boarded for home. We arrived back in Kansas City around 9:30 pm, tired but satisfied with the success of the trip.

Girls Gone Wild Weekend

Recently, I visited my sister Dorothy in Southern California for a Girls Gone Wild Weekend. Joining us were my niece Marcee from Seattle, my Friend-in-Law Sally from San Antonia and her daughter Jeni from Houston. This slide show of what we did takes about four and a half minutes to view.
